Yuka Kobashi is an International Rider from Japan who has competed in Japan and the U.S.A.

Yuka started riding horses at the age of 9 at a show jumping barn in Japan where they train retired racehorses for riding.  Since the age of 9, Yuka has learned not only how to ride horses, but also how to clean stalls, turn horses out, feed, groom and care for horses. Yuka competed in her very first recognized jumping show at the age of 12 and won 1st place over a field of 29 competitors.  That experience ignited Yuka’s competitive spirit and she has been a dedicated equestrian and a very competitive rider ever since.

In 2017 at age of 18, Yuka decided to study abroad in Texas where her sister lived.  With her sister’s help, Yuka discovered Salado Creek Riding Club in Belton, Texas. There she met Deirdre R. Sabo, owner of Deirdre Dressage and Salado Creek Riding Club.  Yuka greatly admired Deirdre, so she switched from jumpers to strictly dressage and became Deirdre’s working student. Since then, Yuka has enjoyed spending most of her time at Salado Creek Riding Club assisting Deirdre with the training and sale horses and taking dressage instruction from Deirdre.  Yuka participated in some schooling shows in 2018 and loved getting back into the show ring. In 2019 Yuka competed in her first Region 9 Championship on Just Wait “Danny”, and won a Silver Medal (SWDC Training Level Pony Open) and a Bronze Medal (SWDC First Level Pony Open.)

Yuka graduated from Central Texas College in December of 2019, earning her Associate Degree in “Equine Management”.  Yuka has been promoted to Assistant Trainer and will continue to work with Deirdre Sabo at Deirdre Dressage and Salado Creek Riding Club.

Yuka is currently accepting ponies for training.  Her soft way of riding and her size makes her the perfect solution for turning out top performing ponies.
